SpaceKits offers Starlink UPS and surge protection setup in Kenya using compatible equipment supplied by the customer. The service is limited to plug-in connection, configuration, load review, runtime estimation, functional testing and user handover. It does not include opening equipment, changing sockets, working inside a distribution board, installing fixed wiring, adding an inverter or building a solar system.

What the plug-in setup service can include
The agreed scope can cover:
- identifying the Starlink power equipment and any approved network device intended for backup;
- reviewing the customer-supplied UPS or surge device label, manual, outlets and visible condition;
- comparing the intended load with the UPS watt and VA limits stated by its manufacturer;
- producing a practical runtime estimate from the available specifications or an observed test;
- connecting the compatible plug-in equipment without modifying the building installation;
- checking mains operation, battery transfer, recovery and expected indicator or alarm behaviour;
- recording limitations, battery observations and safe operating notes; and
- handing administrator or monitoring control to the customer where the UPS provides an app or interface.
The service may cover a Starlink power supply and router, or another small network device that has been explicitly included in the load review. Unlisted appliances are not assumed. Printers, kettles, heaters, fridges, pumps and other high-demand or motor loads must not be added simply because an outlet remains free.
Customer-supplied, compatible equipment only
The customer supplies the UPS, surge device and manufacturer-approved accessories. SpaceKits reviews the exact models rather than assuming that anything labelled “backup” is suitable. A unit may have enough VA capacity but a lower watt limit, unsuitable output, worn batteries or outlets that do not fit the site.
Share clear photographs of ratings, outlets, plugs and indicators without exposing serial numbers. Include the manual where available and state the unit’s age or storage history. Heat, deep discharge and storage reduce capacity, so original runtime is not proof of present performance.
SpaceKits does not claim stock, manufacturer appointment or official Starlink affiliation through this configuration service. Compatibility is assessed from the customer’s equipment, available documentation and safe test results.
Information needed before a booking
Send the following through the enquiry process:
- town or area and whether the site is a home, office, lodge, shop or other property;
- Starlink kit generation or power-supply model where known;
- every device proposed for connection to the UPS;
- photographs of each device’s power label and plug;
- UPS or surge-device make, model, watt rating, VA rating and battery details;
- the desired purpose, such as bridging brief cuts or supporting a longer outage;
- typical outage duration and frequency at the site;
- current symptoms, alarms or unexpected shutdowns; and
- confirmation that the existing socket is in sound condition and has not shown heat, looseness, arcing or discolouration.
Do not continue with plug-in setup if the socket or plug shows damage, excessive heat, burning smell or repeated tripping. Those conditions require an authorised electrical professional before network equipment is connected.
How the load and runtime estimate is prepared
UPS selection involves power and energy. Watt and VA limits both matter. A device should not be planned at its maximum label limit because battery condition, temperature and future additions reduce the usable margin.
SpaceKits builds a load list from labels and, where suitable, an observed reading or UPS interface. Runtime considers connected watts, stated capacity, losses, battery age and the manufacturer’s chart. A displayed estimate can be recorded during testing, but remains an estimate.
Runtime is not linear. A higher load can sharply reduce usable time, especially with an ageing battery. The handover lists included equipment because adding another device changes the estimate.
What surge protection can and cannot do
A plug-in surge device is used according to its instructions. Performance depends on its design, condition, connection and the premises earthing. A status light is not proof that earthing is adequate, and the device cannot correct a defective earth.
Surge protection does not make electronics immune to every lightning event, utility fault or voltage disturbance. Components can reach end of life, so the customer should understand the indicator and replacement guidance.
SpaceKits does not test, install or repair earthing as part of this service. Questions about socket integrity, distribution-board protection, bonding, lightning protection or premises wiring must be referred to an appropriately authorised professional.
Plug-in UPS and surge setup process
1. Remote screening
Equipment, intended runtime and site conditions are reviewed before attendance. Clear incompatibility, damage or an electrical warning sign can then be referred before a visit.
2. Visual and documentation check
SpaceKits checks for visible damage, blocked ventilation, unsuitable placement and readable ratings. This is not electrical certification or internal inspection. Swollen batteries, cracked cases, liquid damage or burnt connectors stop the work.
3. Load plan and connection sequence
Included devices are compared with UPS limits. The unit is placed in a dry, ventilated location consistent with its manual. Plugs must match without improvised adapters. Daisy-chaining leads, UPS units or surge strips is excluded unless the manufacturers expressly permit it.
4. Normal-power test
With utility power available, the setup is checked for normal operation, charging, alarms and stable startup. This cannot certify the building supply or predict future utility conditions.
5. Controlled battery-transfer test
Where instructions and conditions allow, a controlled transfer test checks whether selected devices remain powered on battery. Indicators, alarms, load and connection state are observed. Heat, abnormal noise, smell or overload stops the test.
A brief transfer test is not a full discharge, which may be unnecessary and accelerate wear. Any longer test needs an agreed duration and stopping point.
6. Recovery and handover
Recovery, charging and network reconnection are checked. The customer receives the load list, runtime basis, indicators, placement notes and alarm actions. Any monitoring app remains under the customer’s account.
Testing without guaranteeing uptime or speed
A UPS can keep selected equipment powered for an estimated period, but it cannot guarantee internet availability. Starlink service conditions, obstructions, equipment faults, provider events and WiFi coverage remain separate factors. Similarly, a surge device cannot guarantee that electronics will survive every electrical event.
Testing records transfer and network behaviour under agreed conditions, without promising speed, uptime or identical runtime during every outage. For non-power connection issues, use Starlink setup support.
What affects the quotation?
The quote depends on the number of devices in the load list, the availability of readable specifications, the UPS monitoring platform, the complexity of safe access, the requested runtime-testing period and whether site attendance is needed. Reviewing one documented plug-in UPS for a Starlink kit differs from assessing several customer-supplied units across an office.
The written scope identifies the devices, loads, test method, assumptions and handover. Batteries, new equipment, subscriptions and manufacturer service are separate unless stated. Pricing follows review of the supplied equipment and location.
Electrical and installation boundaries
This service stops at compatible plug-in configuration. SpaceKits will refer the following work to an appropriately authorised professional:
- installing, replacing or repairing wall sockets;
- opening or modifying a distribution board;
- testing or correcting earthing and bonding;
- fixed surge-protective-device or lightning-protection work;
- new wiring, circuit changes, changeovers or permanent cable routes;
- inverter, generator-transfer or battery-bank integration; and
- solar design, installation or modification.
The plug-in setup also excludes structured or fibre cabling, point-to-point links, CCTV or other security-system work, Starlink dish mounting, equipment repair and any bypass of manufacturer protections. SpaceKits does not promise stock, same-day attendance, nationwide immediate capacity, a guaranteed runtime, guaranteed speed or search-ranking results.

1. Can any UPS run Starlink equipment?
No. Compatibility depends on the Starlink power equipment, total connected watts, UPS watt and VA limits, output characteristics, battery condition and manufacturer instructions. The exact models must be reviewed.
2. How long will my Starlink stay online during an outage?
Runtime is estimated from the measured or stated load, battery capacity, losses, age and test results. It changes with battery condition and any device added later, so it cannot be guaranteed.
3. Can SpaceKits install a new socket for the UPS?
No. New, damaged or unsuitable sockets, fixed wiring and distribution-board work must be handled by an appropriately authorised electrical professional before plug-in setup proceeds.
4. Does a surge protector work without proper earthing?
Its performance depends on the product and the premises installation, including earthing where required. SpaceKits does not test or repair earthing under this service and will refer that work to an authorised professional.
5. Can I connect other appliances to the same UPS?
Only devices included in the reviewed load plan should be connected. High-demand, heating or motor appliances can overload a small UPS and are outside this Starlink configuration scope.
6. Will the UPS prevent every Starlink restart?
No. A compatible, healthy UPS may bridge power interruptions within its limits, but equipment faults, depleted batteries, overloads and non-power network events can still cause a restart or loss of service.
7. Do you supply the UPS or surge device?
This service is written for compatible customer-supplied plug-in equipment. It makes no stock promise. Any future supply request would require a separate written scope and compatibility review.
8. What should I send for a setup quotation?
Send the location, Starlink model, UPS or surge-device make and model, rating-label photographs, every proposed load, desired runtime and any current alarms or socket concerns. Do not use damaged equipment while waiting for review.
