Local Starlink planning for Nyakach
Katito and Pap Onditi are important service centres, while Nyabondo, Sigoti and surrounding rural areas include homes, schools, health facilities and farms. The County Government records Katito’s elevation to town status. Elsewhere, a property may be farther from a practical wired connection or need an independent option.

A rural home may have a clear-looking compound but still contain obstructions at the angle used by the dish. Mature trees, a nearby ridge line, water tanks and taller buildings should be checked from the proposed mounting position. Once the outdoor location is selected, the cable route and indoor router position must serve the rooms where people study, work or communicate.
Detached bedrooms, a separate kitchen, thick masonry and long compounds can create dead zones. A mesh node or access point may help, but only when it has a good connection back to the main network. We avoid putting an extender in the place with the weakest signal and hoping it will create a strong network.
Schools and training centres
A school installation should start with a coverage map: administration, staff room, computer room, library, classrooms or boarding areas. Covering every corner may not be necessary or affordable. Defining priority zones makes it possible to choose router locations, wired access points or mesh nodes intelligently and to separate staff, learner and guest access where the equipment supports it.
Internet access also needs an acceptable-use policy, password management and suitable content controls. Those are organisational decisions rather than automatic features of a dish installation. Clinics and health facilities
Clinics may need connectivity for communication, authorised records systems, online reporting and staff coordination. The network should prioritise protected work areas and should not expose administrative devices through uncontrolled guest access. If several blocks require connectivity, the link between buildings must be planned for distance, line of sight, power and weather exposure.
Satellite connectivity can support online work, but it should not be described as guaranteed for clinical emergencies. Farms, shops, churches and local organisations
A farm office may need messaging, online payments, CCTV access or records, while a shop may prioritise point-of-sale devices and communication. A church or community organisation may need office access during the week and controlled connectivity for events. Why terrain and trees change the installation
The dish requires a broad, unobstructed view of the sky. On varied terrain, the obvious roof may not be the best position: one side can be sheltered by trees or another structure, while an alternative wall or pole position provides a clearer view and safer cable access. The proposed point should be checked with the relevant obstruction tool and visually inspected rather than chosen from a distant photograph alone.
Elevation also affects the local network. Two buildings that appear close on a map may sit at different levels or have trees between them. A point-to-point wireless bridge depends on suitable line of sight, proper mounting and power at both ends. Mesh Wi-Fi is designed for overlapping coverage; it is not a substitute for a properly engineered long-distance link across a rural compound.
For a tall pole or mast, SpaceKits evaluates stability, wind exposure, maintenance access and cable routing. Extra height adds leverage and can complicate future service. The best solution is a secure, maintainable position with the required view.
What the Nyakach site survey checks

Fragile or steep roofing should be declared before the appointment. A technician should not improvise unsafe access simply to preserve a planned booking time. Cable routing for a durable rural installation
Cabling should not hang loosely over a sharp iron-sheet edge, pass through a frequently used doorway or lie where livestock and farm tools can damage it. The route needs suitable support, protection at exposed sections and enough care to respect the manufacturer’s bend and connector limits. If an entry point is required, it should be agreed with the owner and finished to reduce water tracking.
Dish cables and connectors should not be casually cut, spliced or forced through undersized holes. A tidy route also makes fault-finding easier later. Before the installer leaves, the customer should know where the cable runs, which sections are accessible and which part of the building was penetrated or fixed.
Router placement and whole-property Wi-Fi
Putting the router beside the cable entry is convenient, but it may leave the opposite side of the house without useful coverage. During planning, we compare the shortest cable route with the best practical indoor network position. For one compact home, the standard router may serve the required rooms. Larger or divided buildings may need an added access point or mesh arrangement.
For a school or clinic with several blocks, we may recommend wired backbone sections or a dedicated building-to-building link. The quote should state which buildings and zones are included. “Whole compound” is too vague unless the boundaries, construction materials and expected users have been assessed. Power continuity and protection
The Starlink dish, router and any access points require power. If a client wants the internet to remain available during an outage, backup equipment should be sized around the actual connected load and desired runtime. A battery chosen only from a marketing claim may run for much less time after switches, access points and CCTV equipment are added.

What affects a Nyakach installation quote?
We quote according to the work, hardware and travel involved. Factors include:

- roof pitch, fragility, height and access requirements;
- distance from the technician route and condition of the final access road;
- cable length, conduit, entry method and physical protection;

Frequently asked questions
Can Starlink be installed where there are many trees?
Possibly, but the actual sky view must be assessed. Raising the dish may help in some cases, while moving it to another part of the property may be safer and more effective. A tall mast is not an automatic solution.
Can you install on an iron-sheet roof?
Many installations involve iron-sheet roofs, but the sheet condition, supporting structure, pitch and access must be checked. The mount should attach to a suitable structural point and any penetration must be agreed and treated carefully.
Will one router cover a school or clinic?
Not necessarily. Coverage depends on building size, walls, distance and user load. The survey defines priority zones and whether access points, mesh or a building link is required.
Can SpaceKits install a second-hand kit?
Installation can be considered after checking the hardware generation, condition, completeness and activation status. Physical mounting cannot solve ownership transfer, suspension or account restrictions.
Do you guarantee a particular speed?
No. We test the installed network but cannot guarantee provider performance. The professional scope is to reduce avoidable faults through a clear sky view, sound mounting, protected cabling and appropriate local Wi-Fi design.
Can you connect a detached building?
Yes, where a suitable wired or wireless design is practical. We assess distance, line of sight, power, weather exposure and the bandwidth needs at the second building before recommending equipment.
