For a home, the best dish position and the best Wi-Fi position are often different. The dish needs a wide, clear view of the sky, while the router needs a central, protected indoor position. A survey helps identify a secure mounting point, a realistic cable entry and any rooms that may require added Wi-Fi coverage. Thick walls, long corridors, detached rooms and separate rental units should be discussed before installation rather than discovered after activation.

A useful survey begins with the intended users and ends with a practical installation route. Depending on the property, the technician may check:
- the sky view and possible obstruction from trees, nearby roofs, towers or future construction;
- roof condition and whether a roof, wall, fascia, pole or ground-supported solution is appropriate;
- wind exposure, mounting height and the structure’s ability to accept a secure bracket;
- the distance and safe route from the dish to the equipment position;
- water-entry risks, drip loops and the treatment of any necessary penetration;
- access for future inspection without encouraging unsafe climbing;

An obstruction check should be made at the actual proposed mounting point. Guessing from ground level can miss trees or roof lines that interrupt the dish’s view. If a tall mast is being considered, the technician must also weigh improved visibility against stability, maintenance access, lightning exposure and the cost of additional hardware. Taller is not automatically better.
Flood-aware placement in the Kano Plains
Parts of the Nyando basin are associated with heavy-rain and drainage challenges. No internet installation should be described as “flood-proof,” but avoidable exposure can be reduced through careful placement. Indoor power supplies, routers, switches and backup units should not be left directly on a floor where water ingress is a known concern. - travel distance and route logistics outside the main centres;
- cable length, protection, conduit and the complexity of the entry route;
- additional networking equipment such as switches, access points or mesh units;
- power protection, backup-power requirements and any qualified electrical work;
- multi-building coverage, CCTV connectivity or business failover configuration;
- whether the client already has a compatible kit and accessories.
The Starlink kit, subscription and plan are separate from professional installation unless a written SpaceKits quote expressly bundles particular items. - Complete a remote pre-check or site survey. Clear photographs can help with initial planning, but complex roofs, tall mounts and multi-building networks may require an on-site assessment.
- Agree on scope and quote. The written scope should identify mounting, cable routing, network additions and any exclusions.
- Mount and route. The technician secures the approved mount, respects cable bend limits, protects the route and keeps the finish tidy.
- Set up and test. After client-authorised activation, we check the equipment, confirm connectivity and test the agreed Wi-Fi zones.
- Handover. The client is shown the equipment locations, basic controls and the practical limits of the installed network.

Frequently asked questions
Can SpaceKits install a kit I already bought?
Yes, installation-only work can be quoted after the kit generation, completeness, condition and activation status are confirmed. Send photographs of the dish, router, power equipment, cables and any mount. A physical installation cannot resolve an account, ownership-transfer or service-address restriction.
Can you install at a rice store or warehouse?
Yes, subject to a survey and safe mounting access. We will ask which office, receiving area, CCTV system or other zones need connectivity because metal roofs and partitions can affect the Wi-Fi design.
Will Starlink work during rain?
Satellite service can be affected by weather, and no installer should guarantee uninterrupted performance. Correct alignment, a clear sky view, sound cabling and sensible power protection reduce avoidable installation faults, but they cannot remove network or weather-related variation.
Can the router cover several buildings?
Not reliably in every compound. Separate buildings may need Ethernet, outdoor-rated links, access points or a planned mesh arrangement. We assess distance, line of sight, power and building materials before recommending equipment.
Do you provide backup power?
