A clear installation brief helps the tenant, building manager and installer agree on the same job before anyone arrives with equipment.

Talk to Spacekits before you buy or book installation. We help with kit supply, mounting, activation, router placement, WiFi coverage, and written quotes.
This guide is for tenants in areas such as Westlands, Kilimani, Kileleshwa, Lavington, South B, South C, Lang’ata, Roysambu, Kasarani and the Embakasi area. A neighbourhood name does not establish whether your particular building has usable roof access. The building layout, the available sky view and the management rules determine the next step.
Start with the building, not a dish location
A balcony that looks convenient may have an obstructed view. A roof that looks clear may be inaccessible or unsuitable for the proposed mounting method. Ask the property manager which locations may be inspected, who holds the access key and whether a contractor needs an appointment or escort. Do not climb onto a roof to take photographs yourself.
Give the installer photographs taken safely from accessible areas, your floor level and a description of the building. Ask for an assessment rather than assuming that a mount can be attached to a railing, water-tank structure or shared wall. Any proposed fixing needs permission and a suitability check.
Separate permission to inspect from permission to install
A caretaker letting a technician into a building is not necessarily approval to drill, fasten equipment or run a cable through a shared area. Ask the person responsible for the property to confirm what work is allowed. This is a practical coordination step; the requirements depend on your tenancy and the building’s rules.
- Which dish position may be assessed and used?
- Are permanent fixings permitted, and who approves the method?
- Which cable route is acceptable through shared spaces?
- Who may access the equipment for maintenance?
- Who is responsible for removal and making good when the tenancy ends?
Keep the answers with the written quote. If approval is conditional on a site visit, label it that way. A conditional approval should not become an instruction to proceed with permanent work.
Use this one-page Nairobi installation brief
| Brief item | What to record |
|---|---|
| Property and access | Estate, building, floor, appointment contact and permitted working hours. |
| Approval | Approving person, permitted work and any conditions still outstanding. |
| Dish and cable proposal | Location to inspect, proposed entry point and spaces the cable must cross. |
| Indoor use | Rooms needing Wi-Fi, work desk location and any separate guest network request. |
| Quote boundaries | Mounting materials, cable routing, access costs, indoor networking and restoration work. |
| Handover | Account owner, support contact, tests to demonstrate and agreed documentation. |
| Move-out plan | Who removes equipment, what stays and who repairs affected finishes. |
Ask for a cable route you can explain
The brief should describe the route from the proposed dish position to the indoor equipment. A route across a doorway or shared walkway raises a different problem from a route through an approved service duct. Tell the installer about locked corridors, restricted ceilings and any work the landlord prohibits.
Ask which kit-specific cable and accessories the proposal requires. Do not assume spare cable from another model is compatible. If the planned route changes during the visit, pause and confirm the revised scope, permission and cost before the change is carried out.
Include the room where you actually work
A successful connection beside the router does not demonstrate usable Wi-Fi in a bedroom office. List the rooms that matter and agree where the installer will test. A long apartment, several floors or thick walls may require a separate Wi-Fi design. Treat that as an explicit part of the quote rather than an assumed benefit of buying a satellite kit.
For the wider indoor-network discussion, see Wi-Fi extension and mesh setup. For the full selection process, use our guide to choosing Starlink installers in Kenya.
What should happen at handover?
Walk through the approved work with the installer from safe, accessible positions. Confirm the agreed rooms have been tested, the equipment location is recorded and you know how to contact support. Keep your account recovery details under your control; a work order does not need your password.
If access or the proposed sky view makes the job unsuitable, request a revised recommendation before accepting an improvised location. A site assessment may conclude that the original plan needs to change.
Book with the right information
For Starlink installation in Nairobi estates, send SpaceKits your estate, floor, kit model, approval status and rooms needing coverage. Ask for the survey scope, current availability and an itemised quote. SpaceKits is an independent supplier and installation provider; service availability and plan terms should be checked separately for the exact address.
